Blissberry MD Thor is a buck who just gets better and better as he ages. Another buck with a pedigree filled with some of my favorite Nubians, this handsome fella brings a lot to the table. We retained 4 of his daughters this year and are impressed by the consistency we see in his progeny. Great length of body, a nice wedge shape and real strength throughout. We will freshen the first of his daughters this fall, Copper Canyon T Pixie, and can’t wait to see how she freshens. As much as we like the juniors sired by this yearling buck, based on his parentage the best may be yet to come.
When picking a new herd sire, there is a school of thought that you find a doe you really admire, a doe that represents many of the qualities you aspire to have in your herd and you get a son from her. In my opinion they do not come any better than SGCH Blissberry Rain or Shine EX93 EEEE. This doe is my ideal for the Nubian breed. There are a lot of great does out there but this one is my very favorite. Long, tall, powerfully built with an exceptional udder both in structure and in terms of production. This powerhouse doe earned permanent champion status as a single kid FF who never really came fully into milk. She was best Nubian udder at the 2019 national show, appraised at EX93 EEEE this year while making it on the elite milker list. I also have an additional appreciation that comes from having her oldest daughter, Blissberry BB Sunny Day, in my herd. Sunny has a beautiful udder with great attachment, capacity and texture to die for. If her brother gives me anything close to Sunny’s udder then we will be beyond excited.
Thor’s sire is GCH Blissberry Mic Drop who is a standout herdsire in the Blissberry herd who’s dam is Blissberry GoodyGoody Gumdrops which makes for fun line breeding when we cross Thor with Oh Yeah. Mic Drop is a handsome buckling who is being used heavily in the Blissberry herd and producing beautiful babies.
As I mentioned, we have several Thor daughters in our herd already so he will be lightly used this spring. In the fall, however, he will likely have a couple pairings including one I am already excited about. Breeding Thor back to Copper Canyon O Sunflower will be a simultaneous line breeding back on two of my all time favorite does. In this pairing we will be breeding a Rain son to a Rain granddaughter and a GeeGee grandson to a GeeGee granddaughter. It also doesn’t hurt that I love the look of both goats but the line breeding is definitely the icing on the cake.
